The fenders are still being modified to clear those wheels. I think the wheel is even with the hoodline, must be a bit of a challenge to make it fit!

Just for the record, I took pictures of my project car on the ground this weekend, but I never would have if I knew I could never do any mods to it again. Shit.

This was a thing for the Miata for a while. People would intentionally remove the fenders and leave them off for the look. Not to mod the fenders, to have the look with them off.
